HISTORY OF VENUE

In 1101, St. Nicholas Church and the Benedictine Priory were founded by Herbert de Losinga, the first Bishop of Norwich.  It was built as a Priory for the Order of Benedictine Monks and initially housed six monks.  The building was constructed from flint imported from Normandy, and compared to other Priory buildings, it has many ornate features.  This is most likely due to its second purpose, which was to entertain important visitors to the town!
